“AN ORDINARY MAN AND HIS EXTRA-ORDINARY JOURNEY”

One fine morning in the year of 1950 in a village of Bengal, a poor Brahmin boy in his early teens, grazing his cow in an open field was wandering at the deep blue sky. He had tasted the bitterness of partition, and all of a sudden his identity was changed and the time was so harsh on him, that they were turned from rich to rags. As they were priests, their livelihood was based on charity that they received from the society. But the boy didn't want to live a life off charity. One morning he fled from his house and came to the city and invested his time in learning the art of Tailoring. Even after working so hard, at times he would sleep empty stomach, life was full of struggles. He remembered hearing from his parents that some relatives who were tailors stayed in Tinsukia, a prominent town in Assam. Something clicked to him and he landed in Tinsukia, wearing Dhoti-Kurta and carrying a pair of scissors in his bag, his most prized- possession at the time. For a few years he worked in one of his uncle's tailoring shops. With his skills, very soon he created a good reputation among the town folks. But his uncle didn't appreciate him. So, he decided to leave the job at his uncle's shop and purchased a sewing machine. He started his business on the footpath of New Market, Tinsukia.

As his fame grew, so did his work load. Now he wanted a shop where he could start his own factory. He established his first factory, which was adjacent to the footpath where he had first installed his sewing machine. He named it “AJIT TAILORING HOUSE”, with his famous tagline “GOD MAKES MAN, TAILORS MAKE GENTLEMAN”. Thereon he worked day and night and his expertise in tailoring had made him a household name in Tinsukia. As he had just kissed his first success, another misfortune happened with him, there was a robbery in his shop, and again he was back to square one. But he was a fighter, he sent a message to the society that “I will repay everybody's money, against the stolen clothes from my shop.” This brave and honest move of him at that point of time got him lots of love and respect from people.Soon he bought a sweet home and brought his parents, as he had promised them a better lifstyle. His hard working, honesty, self discipline life and high vision helped him achieve success and with passing time he could manage to open two more showrooms. He also laid the foundation and gave Tinsukia its first, 'THE RAYMOND SHOP'. But unfortunately, he couldn't attend the inauguration as he passed away on the 5th of August, 2019, a few weeks prior to the opening ceremony.

He has been respected by all sections of the society for his discipline, honesty, hardwork and philanthropy. Throughout his life he donated generously for the education and upliftment of underprivileged children. Even during the pain of separation, his wish of donating his eyes after his death, showed immense courage and humanity. He was an inspiration, friend, philosopher, guide and my father, Late AJIT BHATTACHARJEE. (26/01/1941 to 05/08/2019)
